Advanced Containers on HPC systems

High performance computing (HPC) systems serve a large role in academic computing at scale. In this workshop, we will explore methods for running containers that you develop on HPC systems and discovering containers built by the community that you can utilize. Topics covered include using Apptainer to execute Docker containers on a HPC system, creating a container that can use the Message Passing Interface (MPI) to use multiple nodes in parallel, understanding how to run containers that use GPUs for computation, and doing multi-stage and multi-architecture builds with Docker. Hands-on participation is encouraged. Attendees will benefit the most if they are prepared with a laptop for accessing the Frontera HPC system at TACC and a Docker Hub account.
