Immersive Python Workshop (August 2024)

Workshop materials

This in-person, two-day workshop is aimed at UT students, faculty, and researchers. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of Python to participate in this workshop. This example-driven, two-day workshop will start with an introduction to Python and then participants will choose a particular track to learn more about more specific applications of Python. 

  • Day 1
    • Intro to Python basics (1-2 pm)
    • Python and APIs for retrieving data (2-3 pm)
    • Managing and processing files (3-4 pm)
    • Optional software check to prepare for day 2 (4-4:30 pm)
  • Day 2
    • Split tracks (1-3pm)
      • Sentiment Analysis  | Geospatial Analysis | Data Visualization
    • Sharing code in GitHub (3-4pm)

Short tutorials alternate with hands-on practical exercises. Participants are encouraged both to help one another, and to try applying what they learn to their own research problems during and between sessions.

Workshop sessions will run from 1-4 pm CT on August 15 and 16 in the new Scholars Lab in PCL. There will be breaks and helpers will be on hand to assist.
